History

Fattoria Ambra has belonged to the Romei Rigoli family since the end of the 1800s. The estate is located near the Ombrone river and the Villa Medicea of Poggio a Caiano. It is named after the poem “Ambra”, written in the 15th century by Lorenzo il Magnifico of the Medici family.

The vineyards, of an extension of 22 hectares, stand in four of the most important crus of Carmignano: Montalbiolo with clayey schists and sandstone soil, Elzana with clayey schists and clay soil, Santa Cristina in Pilli with limestone soil and Montefortini with sandstone soil.
DOCG Carmignano is produced by separately vinifying and bottling the grapes grown in these four crus. The blend is mostly Sangiovese together with Cabernet, Canaiolo Nero and other approved red berry grape varieties.

Barco Reale di Carmignano DOC (a young version of Carmignano), Barco Reale di Carmignano Rosato DOC, Vin Santo di Carmignano DOC and Trebbiano di Toscana, an IGT/proprietary wine, complete the range of wines. All the wines of Fattoria Ambra are certified organic.
